Interrogating the Model

BIMMeasure provides a 3-way dynamic link between the on-screen graphics (the 'Model'), the data associated with each object in the drawing (the 'Properties') and the object's position in the drawing structure (the 'Model Contents' Tree)

This means that if a graphical object is selected in the viewer, its properties will be seen in the properties window and its location in the tree will also be selected.

The Model Contents tree is especially powerful for those using BIMMeasure and opening drawing files from applications such as Autodesk Revit.

BIM models are used to create structured data extracted from a database.

This data is based on a hierarchy of:

·         Categories

·         Families

·         Types

·         Instances

For more information, see Structue of Revit.

At any level in this tree, objects can be dragged to the measurements window to create a measurement.  They can also be added to the Schedules window for further manipulation or filtering, prior to measuring.
